The Rarata Primary School
Located approximately 20 kms southeast of the capital Honiara is the Rarata Primary School where children from Rarata Village, Mbalasuna Village and other surrounding villages attend school.
In 2005, following many conversations between Ps Murray Townsend and local villages the need for a primary school was identified. Under the guidance of Ps Murray villagers began construction. By 2006 the first school building was in use and the first teacher's house was built. The school was a very basic two-story construction with a very steep staircase. Students sat on the floor and the teachers had extremely basic teaching tools.
In 2008 the steep stairs were replaced with a proper staircase and rain water tanks were added. A team from Empower INC, Innisfail then began the task of teaching locals to build student desks and painted inside the classrooms.
Jump forward a few years and by 2015 the villagers had added another two classrooms for the overcrowded school.
In 2016 construction of the Prep & Kindy classroom began and by 2021 the first amenities block was built.
There have been many teams over the years from the INC Movement across Australia who have supported both the Rarata Primary School and the School of Ministries in the Solomon Islands.
We honour Pastors Leonard and Elizabeth Letana who have been principals at both locations for many years.
Today there are 170 students in Years 1 to 6.
There are another 100 students in Kindy & Prep.
And through the dedication of local staff and support from sponsors and volunteers we hope to invest in the next generation for years to come.
